Start at Bishops Wood.

Hampsted was M/I Showcase Homes' first New Albany neighborhood, built from the mid-1990s into the early 2000s on part of the old Prairie House land. Scroll, and take the long way to Market Square with me, past everything worth seeing.

The Kroger plaza.

Forgot the milk? It's a walk, not a drive. The plaza sits right across from the neighborhood.

29min · 1.47 mi

Swickard Woods.

An arboretum with about 30 kinds of trees, one of them more than 300 years old. The Plain Township Aquatic Center is next door, for July.

39min · 1.94 mi

The school campus.

Every New Albany-Plain Local building sits on one 120-acre campus beside an 80-acre nature preserve. The McCoy Center, home of the New Albany Symphony, is here too.

45min · 2.27 mi

Rose Run Park.

Thirteen acres linking the campus to Market Square, and the stage for Founders Day, the Taste of New Albany and Oktoberfest. Phase two, with a new Veterans Memorial, is due in late fall 2027.

49min · 2.43 mi

Market Square.

The library, the Heit Center, Thursday farmers markets all summer, and the tree lighting with a drone show the Sunday before Thanksgiving. That was the long way, past everything. Straight from Bishops Wood it's 1.55 miles: about 31 minutes on foot, or ten on a bike.

Route: OpenStreetMap walking paths from Bishops Wood Road, timed at 3 mph. Times are running totals for the whole loop.

The three Hampsteds

Hampsted Green

Hampsted Heath

The final phase: 27 homes on larger wooded lots beside a pond and wooded preserves. Streets like Heath Gate and Tottenham.

Why New Albany, right now

83+ miof leisure trails citywide, plus 2,000+ acres of green space
11,604residents (Census estimate, July 2024): still a small town
2031Intel's target to open its first Ohio One fab, nearby in New Albany and Licking County
1837the village's founding. The Georgian master plan came in 1987.

The New Albany International Business Park is home to Abercrombie & Fitch, Discover, TJX, Bob Evans, Amazon Web Services, Meta and Google, with Amgen under construction. If you're relocating for one of them, ask me for the short version of the neighborhoods closest to your office.

The HOA, plainly

What your dues actually pay for.

The Hampsted Village Homeowner's Association is managed by Ohio Equities. Dues cover the shared outdoors, so your weekends stay yours:

  • Mowing, fertilizing, tree care, edging and mulch in the common areas
  • 13+ miles of asphalt leisure trails, on a three-year maintenance cycle
  • Fences, the gazebo, the pond, the bridge, benches and irrigation
  • Dog stations and the neighborhood entrances

Exterior changes go through the HOA's architectural review. The current dues amount isn't published; I'll get you the exact number for any home you're serious about.

Schools

One campus.

Hampsted is in New Albany-Plain Local Schools, where every building sits on one 120-acre campus beside an 80-acre nature preserve.

Today the buildings run Early Learning Center (PreK and K), Primary (1 to 3), Intermediate (4 to 6), Middle (7 and 8) and High School (9 to 12). A voter-approved bond adds a new K–2 building, with grade groupings changing for the 2027–28 school year.

Always confirm attendance details with the district for a specific address.

Only a neighbor would tell you

The things that aren't in the listing.

Fireworks from Fodor

On the Fourth, Hampsted watches from the green space at Fodor Road and Heath Gate Drive.

The June garage sale

A Hampsted-wide sale that draws shoppers from all over central Ohio. Good for decluttering before a move, or furnishing after one.

The white horse fences

The fences, the historic-style street lights and the wooden street signs are part of New Albany's Georgian master plan.

A 300-year-old tree

Swickard Woods has about 30 kinds of trees. One of them was growing before Ohio was a state.

Names in the attic

George Ealy built the Ealy House in 1860 and wrote the year and his workers' names in the attic. It's on the National Register now.

Founders Day turned 50

It started as a small bicentennial party in 1976. The 2026 parade was the fiftieth.
